...my Favorite Things

Updated: Feb 1, 2021

"When the dog bites, when the bee stings, when I'm feeling sad I simply remember my favorite things and then I don't feel so bad ..."

My favorite things signify who I am - classy, timeless; fun-loving, fierce; a Mom and career woman.

Fashion.

When it comes to fashion, stilettos are a standard accessory. Pointy-toe, peep-toe, open-toe; give me animal print in all versions, please. The sleek slant, height of the heel, and the music the heel and toe make adds the perfect rhythmic combination to my step. Add a pair of skinny jeans and a blazer or a solid sheath dress. Either of these hug me in all the right places to give me that extra boost of confidence.

Food.

I enjoy eating good food - who doesn't? Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because it brings together the best of southern comfort foods - cornbread dressing, macaroni and cheese, sweet potato casserole and yes, my favorite, collard greens. There is also something to be said about the rich, autumn aroma that Thanksgiving brings. My favorite fall fragrance is cinnamon, in all forms. Cinnamon and spice, apple cinnamon, both bring a resounding declaration that autumn is here but it also collides with aroma of fresh baked pies. That is why I love Thanksgiving so much.

Music.

It is the universal language. I love all music. My favorite is a live band. Yeah, I know, this sounds rather general, but hearing the collaboration of even a 3-piece ensemble makes me smile on the inside. Music is so expressive. Seeing the artist's interpretation of a piece of music using their preferred instrument is so captivating. In that I am a vocalist, I suppose singing with a live band is the ultimate favorite. The thing I love most about live bands is that no two rehearsals are the same. If done right, instrument, artist, and vocalist get to express themselves to create perfect harmony.

When I'm feeling sad, any of my favorite things have the power to motivate me to press through the difficult times. Favorite outfit, food, or music ... suddenly I don't feel so bad.
